Shattered Dimensions was the best Spiderman game in recent memory and apparently Activision took notice. The developer has now given the rights to all future Spiderman games to developer Beenox.

“Beenox's creative vision reinvigorated the Spider-Man gaming experience among critics and fans in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions,” said Activision Studios senior VP Patrick Kelly in a statement. “We can't wait to see where this talented studio will take this franchise in the future.” Also pleased with the announcement (if you could believe it!) is Beenox itself, with studio head Dee Brown saying, “being able to map out Spider-Man's interactive future gives us the creative freedom to really craft the best gaming experience for the fans.”

Though Shattered Dimensions was a good game, it still was not a Game Of The Year candidate like Batman: Arkham Asylum was. I think the web slinger has potential to have a classic like that, but Beenox will have to take risk in development to take the next step. We'll probably see a new Spiderman game next year, so lets wait and find out what they do with the franchise.
