I wish achievements (or trophies) were always in video games. There's nothing like beating a boss thats been whupping on you for a week. How about trying to do the last mission on the hardest level and finally getting it? When you finally reach that goal you have been fighting for, all you can do is raise your hands up in victory. For this, I present my own achievements in gaming and we start with:
Beating the Emerald Weapon in Final Fantasy VII. Once you acquire the submarine, it's there and ready to fight and you'd best be strong enough to fight it because it is the strongest monster in the game (sorry Ruby).
The battle is made even harder by a 20 minute time limit representing the characters' oxygen capacity. This time limit can be removed by morphing a ghost ship from the underground reactor and giving the acquired item to the Kalm Traveler. Even with the time limit removed, the Emerald WEAPON can still cause a problem by random use of ‘Aire Tam Storm' (Materia spelled backwards) attack that will do 1111 damage for each materia equipped (which usually means about 9999 damage). Add in that Emerald has 1 million HP and there you have the ultimate boss battle.
I remember when I beat Emerald back in the day, and I thought my life was complete. I leveled up all my characters to 99 (except Cait Sith, he's a lame) and that took about 15 – 20 hours to do. I somehow managed to get all my characters to 7777 hp when the fight started(remember that trick?), their limit breaks were ready, and two of my characters had Knights Of The Round equipped. Even with all that, I just barely beat him. Red XIII and Vincent were down, Cloud had about 100 hp left, but his Limit, Omnislash was ready. In my last effort, before I died again, I released Omnislash and defeated the beast with 1 minute to spare. Words can't express the joy that was felt at the moment.
Have you fought Emerald? Did you beat it? Leave us your own story of how you fought the WEAPON.
